The meaning of life is not a mystery. It is observable in the DNA of all life. We observe that all life is programmed to find a way to survive long enough to leave a living piece of itself behind. In humans that simple bit of coding, and our adaptation to modify the world with tools has led us to the complex societies we live in today. Being genetically lazy sexed up monkeys prone to violence who sometimes play with their own poo means there is no guarantee we are on the evolutionary path to immortality. On the contrary, based upon the number of extinctions there have been in nature, the utter lack of another surviving model like us, and the unsustainable nature of our lifestyles on this planet, it seems like a given we are headed for extinction too. Nature knows it — Thats why the imperative to survive is so strong. What nature doesn’t do is give two-fucks the who what when or even where of all. It will mindlessly, heartlessly, erase the entire planet from existence and patiently wait for the next poo-flinger to win the genetic lottery and move it up the evolutionary chain.
